FAMU Alumni Will Host Florida Gubernatorial Candidates Forum at Annual Convention

ORLANDO, Fla. – During its annual convention, the Florida A&M University National Alumni Association (FAMU NAA) will welcome candidates running for governor of Florida, FAMU President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., the University’s new head football coach Willie Simmons, and other special guests during its annual convention in Orlando.

The convention, themed “Igniting the Magic of FAMU,” will be held May 24-27 at the Rosen Centre Hotel at 9840 International Drive.

Alumni from around the country will gather for workshops, a fundraising luncheon and the Distinguished Alumni Awards Black-Tie Gala. They will also get the latest information about athletics, the University’s strategic plan, legislative priorities, the search for new deans of several colleges and schools and much more.

“We are excited to see the number of alumni registering for this convention and coming together to raise funds and support FAMU’s current and future needs,” said FAMU NAA President Lt. Col. Gregory L. Clark. “We look forward to hearing from President Robinson and the entire FAMU community and having a conversation with candidates seeking the state’s top office.”

The convention will begin Thursday with workshops, a “Lunch and Learn” with Athletics and an opening reception.

Friday’s events include the FAMU NAA President’s Breakfast, the FAMU President’s Luncheon and Distinguished Alumni Awards Black-Tie Gala.

On Saturday, May 26, the FAMU NAA’s Gubernatorial Candidates Forum will be held from 9-10 a.m., followed by an overview of the State’s performance-based funding metrics and their impact on FAMU’s operations and growth. At 11:30 a.m., the FAMU NAA Fundraising Luncheon and Parade of Giving will be held to continue raising funds for the NAA’s Save Our Students (S.O.S.) Scholarship Retention Campaign. FAMU alumnus Rep. Ramon Alexander (D-Tallahassee) will deliver the keynote during the luncheon.

Saturday night’s activities include a ‘70s themed reception and all-white party.

The convention will end Sunday with a Rattler Church Service at 9 a.m., at the Rosen Centre Hotel. For a complete list of events and registration information, go to
